Custom Crush Production Manager - Confidential

THE POSITION

The winery is looking for a Production Manager. The Production Manager will report directly to the COO to manage the growing luxury wine at multiple wine making facilities.

The person will integrate into an existing production team and must be able to work independently and efficiently at multiple locations.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

This position exhibits and fosters a spirit of team collaboration within the winemaking staff. This position reports to the COO. The person will integrate into an existing custom crush production team and must be able to work independently and efficiently at multiple  custom crush locations

LOCATION

This position is located in Healdsburg, Ca

PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages and directs production processes to maximize production capacity and efficiency without compromising adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality, regulatory compliance, and the Company’s vision.
  • Participates in the development and buildout of the current warehouse facilities based in Healdsburg.
  • Assures effective communication with all Custom Crush production staff and with all other departments and managers.

PRODUCTION

Daily tasks include:

  • Write monthly SO2 additions and topping work orders in Innovint
  • Manage and analyze wine and vessels lots through databases
  • Physical monthly inventory
  • Track and maintain current inventories in Winemakers Database and Innovint
  • Maintain high-quality winemaking standards
  • Have a complete understanding of wine progression and abnormal occurrences, such as VA, re-fermentation, microbial population changes, etc.

Harvest Duties:

  • Grape sampling and processing
  • Update vineyard maps as the growing season progresses
  • Follow all Winemaker’s directives
  • Create and track all fruit processing work orders
  • Report weight tags to growers and accounting
  • Order wine addition supplies for harvest
  • Oversee all fermentation operations
  • Manage and track primary and secondary fermentation
  • Cellar work as needed
  • Create and organize safety meetings
  • Manage smoke taint QC protocols and micro-ferments

Bottling Duties

  • Pull and organize samples for tastings
  • Oversee blending procedures in cellar and proceed according to Winemaker’s plan
  • Bottling preparations in database – packaging supplies, bottling codes
  • coordinate all bottling materials, supplies and deliveries with vendors
  • Manage Bottling line runs to highest QC standards
  • Write BOLs for trucking shipments

Administrative:

  • Work with Vice President of Operations on related issues.
  • Assistance with compliance with local, county, state and federal agencies as relates to production including wastewater. Be capable of 702 reporting
  • In conjunction with production staff, establishes and directs implementation of operational polices and overall direction of production departments.
  • Participate in planning, research and purchasing of major equipment.

Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Ensures that standards for and supervision of all production departments are in conformance with or above industry standards, particularly with regard to safety.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Specific requirements include:

Certifications

  • Forklift license
  • TCA Sensory threshold 1.0 ppt
  • 5 or more years production experience. Strong organizational skills.
  • College degree required, preferably a BS in Enology/Fermentation Science or Winemaking.
  • People management experience and strong skill set required. 
  • Strong technical skills, including a hands-on approach to management and understanding of production equipment. 
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude. Previous experience directly repairing and servicing standard winery equipment is strongly desired.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, motivate, and function as a team leader and role model to others.  This should be demonstrated through thorough and consistent team building, leadership by example, and pride in the product produced. A sense of humor, professionalism and good people skills required.

  • Computer knowledge and skills. Innovint a plus Microsoft Office and other wine management databases.
  • Ability to multi-task.  Big picture team player with strategic vision.

  • Attention to detail in all aspects of production.
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Hard worker with excellent work ethic

Preferred position qualifications include:

  • Spanish language skills a plus.
