Al Scheid first saw untapped potential in Monterey County in 1972 when the wine region was in its infancy. What started as a grape growing operation that sold 100% of its production to other wineries today has evolved into a grapes-to-glass family business that crafts authentic and elegant wines.

Our Scheid Family Wines portfolio now includes a number of unique and distinctive labels including Scheid Vineyards, District 7, Metz Road, VDR, Stokes’ Ghost, Ranch 32 and Ryder Estate.

With 11 estate vineyards comprised of 4,000 acres located along a 70-mile spread of the Salinas Valley, the array of microclimates and soils give us an incredible selection to work with each vintage. While our wealth of vineyard resources is exceptional, it is our employees that are at the heart of everything we do. Much of our workforce has been with us for over 25 years, with several of our vineyard managers employed for over 40 years.

SUMMARY:  The Director of Marketing will lead the Scheid Family Wines marketing team and all marketing efforts for the company’s brands while developing and managing the implementation of the annual marketing plan to generate sustainable consumer and trade demand, support corporate growth targets and enhance overall brand image. S/he will provide brand recommendations as a member of the Scheid Family Wines team responsible for strategic and long-range planning.  The chosen candidate will manage the development of all brand advertising, packaging and promotional concepts.  S/he will effectively communicate the brand strategy and product information to all pertinent audiences:  internal, distributor, trade and consumer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build a strong marketing organization through leadership and planning.
  •  Recruit, mentor and coach team member development and build a strong group of marketing professionals.
  • Collaborate with sales leadership to support the sales team and key sales objectives. Work with key on and off premise strategic accounts, internal field sales, and distributor personnel, to develop marketing programs and identify opportunities to expand the business in existing channels of trade.
  • Develop and execute strategic and annual marketing plans while driving Innovation which address all aspects of the marketing mix including pricing, packaging, advertising, promotion, public relations, digital and social media marketing, market research, and new product development.
  • Develop brand identity and define brand attributes for each brand – artwork, web sites, fact sheets, sell sheets, tech sheets, etc.
  • Manage detailed analysis of consumer data and trend insights to drive methods of building brands.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's Degree required. (MBA preferred).
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a Brand Management/Marketing Management position in a consumer products company required; wine industry experience preferred. 
  • Skills: Strong analytical and strategic skills. Excellent presentation and communication skills.  Ability to focus on multiple tasks and deadlines, and effectively prioritize and manage them.  Strong “team work” orientation and the ability to bring out the best in those who work for and with you. Attention to detail. Strong PC skills (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
