General Manager - Confidential

Paso Robles, CA - Full Time

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directly supervises the Winemaker, Director of Sales and Marketing, and Bookkeeper. 
  • The General Manager has complete fiduciary responsibility while directing the winery in its day-to-day operations. 
  • The GM has authority over all personnel and operates under policies and budgets approved by the Board. 
  • Responsible for executing and monitoring short and long term goals of the company. 
  • Works closely with the Board to determine winery goals
  • Ensure executive team is working toward company’s short and long term goals 
  • Highly involved with winery operations and maintenance, sales, marketing, financial record keeping, and staffing 
  • Communicate regularly with ranch and vineyard team
  • Oversee employee relations
  • Develop business and marketing plans and evaluate progress
  • Analyze company’s financial health and project growth
  • Develop employee development and training programs
  • Work with Board and Corporate on policy development and implementation
  • Ensure employees are performing at proper levels and are complying with policies
  • Attend Company Board meetings 
  • Liaise with department heads to ensure proper staffing
  • Stay up-to-date on regulations and trends
  • Provide recommendations regarding growth strategies and investments
  • Oversee annual budget
  • Provide vision and leadership in fiscal planning to ensure the continuity  and solvency of the winery
  • Work with Production to ensure accurate documentation of data and records
  • Advocate and ensure high safety standards at all times
  • Maintain general oversight of records including A/R, A/P, Inventory, etc.
  • Assist in development of programs to increase company efficiency 
  • Ensure direct to consumer and wholesale compliance requirements are met
  • Manage compliance with state and federal regulations
  • Post payroll and commission journal entries
  • Communicate with HR on regular basis
  • Act as a professional, personable, and responsible brand ambassador while at the winery and while representing the winery in public
  • Other duties as assigned by winery Board

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support Sales and Marketing team with events, tastings, and marketing projects
  • Support Production team with quality control, planning, and analysis
  • Help with IT tasks at winery
  • Assist with Ranch projects

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ managerial experience
  • MBA 
  • Wine industry experience

Location, Physical Requirements, and PPE

Office: 

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 45 lbs., perceive depth and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Conditions may include working inside and/or outside.  May work around machines with moving parts and moving objects.  Working near radiant and electrical energy.  Working closely with others or working alone. Working extended or irregular hours and travelling by all possible modes of transportation.
  • Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone and vehicles. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, coveralls, gloves, and ear plugs or muffs. 
  • Utilize PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times where required or potential for injury exists.
